An independent consumer software studio

Consumer apps, made for culture.

PTAA designs and develops consumer applications centered on culture — the music people listen to, the books they read, the films they watch, the languages they learn, and the small daily rituals that connect all of it.

01 — About

A small studio with a single audience

PTAA is a small, founder-led consumer software studio. We work on a short list of projects at any one time, in close collaboration with the people who use them. Our team brings together backgrounds in product engineering, design, and applied research, and we choose the work we take on with the same care we put into the work itself.

We build for a single audience: ordinary people in their everyday lives, away from their desks. The thread running through our work is culture — the books, songs, films, artworks, and languages that make up the texture of a life. We believe that thoughtful software can deepen the relationship people have with the culture around them, instead of flattening it into another feed.

02 — What We Build

Apps for the texture of everyday culture

Every PTAA app is a consumer app, built around an aspect of cultural life. We design and ship native and cross-platform applications across a handful of areas where we feel we can do meaningful work.

Music & Audio

Companion apps for listeners — for keeping a record of what you have heard, discovering what to listen to next, and treating music libraries as something more than a stream. We are interested in albums as objects, in liner notes, in the people behind the recordings.

Books & Reading

Tools for readers who want to keep track of their reading life — what they have finished, what is on the shelf, what a friend recommended last spring. We treat reading as a long, personal conversation rather than a leaderboard.

Film, Art & Visual Culture

Small applications for film lovers, museum-goers, and anyone who pays attention to images — for logging what you have seen, building lists, and staying close to the work of artists, directors, and curators whose practice matters to you.

Language & Everyday Curiosity

Apps that sit alongside other cultural pursuits: light language companions, dictionaries with character, and the kinds of niche reference tools that reward genuine interest. We build them for people who are simply curious, not chasing streaks.

03 — Approach

How we work

Restraint over reach

We would rather an application do five things well than fifty things poorly. Each new feature has to earn its place against the cost of complexity it introduces for everyone else.

Privacy by default

We collect as little as we can, store it for as little time as possible, and keep processing on-device whenever the design allows. We avoid third-party trackers and advertising networks in our applications.

Native feel

We build for the platform our users are actually on. That means respecting platform conventions, accessibility settings, and the quiet details that make software feel at home rather than transplanted.

Long-term support

Once we ship something, we maintain it. We respond to support requests from real people, not auto-responders, and we keep applications working across operating system updates for as long as they are useful.
